Intro

“Living here isn’t for everyone...” is my usual response to the inevitable and often perplexed question of why I call the outback town of Tennant Creek in the middle of the Northern Territory home “...but I love it”

About this blog

I'm not a writer.  Lets just get that disclaimer out of the way up front.  I’m not published anywhere and this blog is not anything but an opportunity for me to have a good rant and express my personal opinions.  I’m surprised I didn’t think of it earlier actually.
What I am is an ordinary person living in what I think is an extraordinary place.  The Northern Territory is a wide open space with not many people in it - just the way I like it.  Tennant Creek is about in the middle - 500km north of Alice Springs and 1000km south of Darwin.  I moved here from Melbourne in 2008 and to say it was a culture shock is a bit of an understatement really.
I work essentially as an environmental consultant (not my actual job title, but more a meaningful description I think) for the beef producers of the Barkly region, helping them to produce food more sustainably and to care for this amazing and unique landscape.
Through this blog, I hope to share with you something that I love and along the way try to make sense of some of the challenges we all face.  This may at times be confronting and if along the way I cause offense, it is by no means intentional.  Please forgive in advance.
Oh and if I ramble on too much, give me a nudge and I’ll try to get right to the point.

  1. Naomi, if I didn't already live out here in the middle of nowhere, you would make me wish I did!
